JUNIORS WIN THROUGH TO TROPHY FINAL
Twenty seven juniors from the club competed in the qualifying round of the Yvette Baker Trophy, the premier Junior Inter-Club competition for English and Welsh Clubs, staged by Harlequin Orienteering Club, at Lickey Hills, south of Birmingham. Club captain, Andy Emmerson was delighted with the comprehensive victory score of 898 points out of a maximum 899 over other West Midland clubs. He congratulated the team saying it was a fantastic achievement as several juniors were making their debut for the club and everyone scored 90 points or more.
Winning their class and scoring 100 points were Gursimran Kullar on the Yellow course, Jeremy Knott and Lizzie Davies on the Orange, Harrison McCartney and Aimee Morse on the Light Green and Will Gardner and Emma Kettley on the Green. Scoring 99 points were Sam Hart, Yellow, Ella-Rose McCartney, Orange, Stephen Elkington, Light Green, Matt Elkington and Rachel Emmerson, Green.
The Yvette Baker Trophy Final will be held on December 4th in north Lincolnshire near Grimsby. Octavian Droober juniors will be defending their title, which they have held for 4 consecutive years. If they win they will break the record for 5 consecutive wins held by Nottingham Orienteering Club.
Also celebrating this weekend is experienced orienteer Mike Hampton M65 who won the urban race across bridges, along canals and through famous squares around Venice. Mike has just completed 40 years of orienteering this month and this latest triumph is a fantastic achievement. His time of 47.18mins was 3 mins ahead of nearest Swedish rival. Swedes took 3rd and 4th places too.
