WEST MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES PRESENTED TO CLUB JUNIORS

 At Hay Wood, near Baddesley Clinton, Bob Brandon organised an excellent and well attended West Midlandā€™s Championships and WM League event. The 8 courses ranging from short 2k to long 9.1k courses were planned by club member Paul Furness. Paul and Elizabeth Furness are moving away to Scotland and Bob thanked them for many years of active involvement in the club including coaching and organisation.

Six club members won the junior west midlands trophies: Alfie Bullus M12, Heather Rogers W14, Stephen Elkington M14, Julie Emmerson W16, Matthew Elkington M16 and Will Gardner M18. On the White 2k course visitors Suzie Clarke W40 came 1st in 23.36mins, Ashley and David Knott M12 were 2nd in 24.22mins and Laura Gould 3rd in 26.02mins. Ewan Lloyd M10 from POTOC was 1st on the Yellow 2.5k course Matthew Kermode M10 2nd 27.27mins and Jack Coathup M12 3rd 30.12mins.

Karen Thomson FVO won the Orange 2.6k course in 42.59mins , Dan Matthews was 2nd in 46.33mins and Geoff Mander M65 3rd 48.25mins. Heather Rogers W14 won the Light Green 3.6k course ahead of Stephen Elkington M14 48.42mins and Matthew Hartland M14 Walton Chasers 58.28mins. Brian Morris M70 Wrekin Orienteers won the Short Green 2.9k course in 33.03mins, Hazel Waters W60 WCH 39.10mins and Sheila Carey W65 was 3rd in 39.45mins.

Matt Elkington M16 easily won the Green 4.1k in 28.50mins, Robert Brandon M60 was 2nd in 35.41mins and Julie Emmerson W16 3rd in 37.41mins. Chris McKenzie M18 from Cleveland orienteering club, currently studying at Warwick University, won the Blue 7k course in 48.17mins, Will Gardner M18 was 2nd in 50.18mins and John Embrey M50 from Harlequins Club 3rd in 5.23mins. On the long Brown 9.1k course three orienteers from Harlequin Orienteering Club (HOC) came in the top three places: Andrew Monro M40 was 1st in 59.35mins, Romualdo Stupelis M21 61.04mins 2nd and Jonathan Rhys M21 65.10mins 3rd.

Several club juniors will be travelling to training camps this weekend. Seven OD juniors, Tamsin Alcock, Julie and Rachel Emmerson, Jeremy Knott, Hamish Rogers, Guy Ross and Francesca Slade, who are 16 years old members of the West Midlands Squad, have been invited to attend the annual two day UK regional training camp held at Lakeside in the Lake District. Matt Elkington, Will Gardner and Sophie Kirk are also training this weekend in the Peak District with the UK Talent Development Squad.
