SUCCESS FOR JUNIORS AT BRITISH SCHOOLS EVENT
Several junior orienteering club members proudly represented their schools at the British Schools Score Championships held near Guildford in Surrey. Pupils, from schools around the Warwickshire area including Ryton on Dunsmore, Banbury, Kenilworth and Leek Wootton, achieved individual top ten places and a silver and two bronze school team prizes.
Florence Lunn came 1st in the Year 6 Girls class scoring 160 points by finding 16 controls within the 45 minutes allowable time and her Sister, Tabitha, came 3rd with 140 points. Thomas Chapple came 8th in the Year 6 Boys class with 120 points. In the Year 8 Boys class Cameron Williams-Stein was 9th and Nathan Chapple 10th both with 155 points. Oliver Lunn was 4th in the Year 9 category with 210 points, Felix Lunn was 6th with 210 points and Oliver Flippance 8th 200 points. Alfie Bullus was 2nd with 245 points in Year 10/11 Boys class and Stephen Elkington 9th in the Year 12/13 Boys class.
In Germany Harrison McCartney was competing for GB in the Junior European Championships which comprised 3 races: Sprint, Long Distance and Relays. Harrison earned a great 10th place in the Sprint, the top GB M18, with a time of 16.05mins on the 3.9km course.
The two day Urban Sprint around Chester saw Anne Straube, W45, in great form coming 1st overall in 80.34mins in the Womens Vet Class after competing in the 4 races around the city and parks including a night race. Pete Carey was 4th overall in the Mens Ultravet class in 91.05mins. On the individual days Liz Phillips W50 clocked up a 5th, 6th and 7th place in the Womens Vet class, Sheila Carey W65 a 4th in the Womens Ultra Vet class. Max Straube-Roth M10 came 3rd in the night race and 2nd in the City race in the Mens Young Junior class.
Guy Ross M20 won the Light Green 2.7km course at Shirebrook, near Mansfield taking 33.41mins, Lesley Ross W45 was 6th on the Blue 5.6km course taking 1.10.44mins and Chris McCartney M45 5th in 1.15.36mins.

PORTO CITY RACE
The Porto City Race in Portugal was the 3rd in the series of 6 City Race Euro Tours and took place over the weekend at the end of September. Antwerp and London have already taken place and next is Krakow in October and Barcelona and Seville in November.
With a catch phrase of ‘think hard, run fast, feel good’, the three day event proved to be extremely fast and enjoyable taking in the sights with a backdrop of the Douro River and historic buildings.
The two preliminary build up races to the main event on Day 3 were well supported by competitors from around Europe and Portuguese sponsors who provided great prizes. On Day 1 Sophie Kirk W21 won the Women’s Senior night race taking 30.03mins on the 3.6km course using a head torch to navigate from the river edge park, up into the town with a finish inside the ancient Fortress in Foz. On Day 2 the Sprint race at the St Roque Park proved challenging with a complex maze near the end of the race and Sophie came 3rd in 18.05mins on the 2.3km course. The main City Race on Day 3 was staged in the Pasteleira Park and the course took in the park, residential areas and school grounds. Sophie fought off her two French challengers to take the lead and finish with a winning time of 41.26mins on the 5km Women’s Senior course.
JUNIORS WIN WEST MIDLANDS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Club juniors for their great performances at the West Midlands Championships held at Whitfield Valley in Staffordshire. Alfie Bullus won the M16 trophy, Felix Lunn won the M14 trophy and Oliver Flippance came 3rd. Florence Lunn won the W12, Pippa Smart was 2nd and Tabitha Lunn 3rd. Nathan Chapple was 2nd M12 and Finlay Flippance 2nd M10.
REDDITCH URBAN RESULTS
Several OD’s competed in this Urban race, part of the West Midlands Urban League, organised by Harlequins Orienteering Club. Congratulations to the winners of their classes: Kin Kwan Kwok M20 won the Men’s Senior 6.4km race, Oliver Lunn M14 won the Junior under 16 2.2km race, Joel Taylor M10 won the under 12 junior boys race, Francis Briscoe W21 won the women’s senior 6.4kmm race, Liz Phillips W50 won the Women’s Vet class, Pippa Smart W12 won the young junior womens race.
