50TH WEEKEND CELEBRATIONS
Warwick University Westwood Campus in Coventry was the venue for the 50th anniversary event organised by club chairman Liz Phillips and Bruce Bryant. There was a very good turnout with approximately 150 runs completed by over 100 competitors. All competitors were presented with a special gift of a commemorative shoe bag from sponsors NFU Mutual, Stoneleigh branch. Appropriately the organisers planned a 5km course with 50 controls to find and punch. The fastest was Chris Rye M21, an ex Warwick University club member who took 29.31mins closely followed by another ex University member and OD club member Iain Embrey on 29.33mins. Robert Buckby M21 also ex Uni member was 3rd in 33.07mins and Kirsten Strain W21 was 4th, took 33.25mins, becoming the fastest woman. Top junior was Sam Leadley M16, 41.28mins. An alternative very short 1.4km course with 20 controls to find around the campus was won by Chris Rye M21 in 8.11mins and top OD junior was Joel Taylor M10 in 17.06mins.
Afterwards at the celebratory dinner held at Stoneleigh Park Golf Club Ted Norrish, founder of Octavian Droobers Orienteering Club spoke about the formation of the club from cross country runners at King Henry VIII School, its subsequent successes as a leading club, welcomed several original members and presented the annual Ted Norrish Trophy to the club member who had contributed most to the club. This year it was awarded to John Middler who has spent a tremendous amount of time and effort in successfully organising the club’s major events.
Junior Home Internationals
Harrison McCartney M18 travelled to Northern Ireland to represent England in the Junior Home International, staged at Magilligan on the North Coast. He helped England to victory in the individual races coming 2nd in the M18 class taking 42.21mins on the 7.8km course and his relay team came 3rd. Scotland won the relays with 129 points overall just ahead of England’s 124.
Ogden Water Results
Florence Lunn W12 won the Orange 2.1km course in 31.05mins running through the woods at Ogden Water, near Halifax, organised by East Pennine Orienteering Club. Sister Tabitha W12 was 5th in 40.36mins on the same course. Oliver Lunn M14 was 5th on the 2.9km course in 42.41mins and Felix Lunn M14 6th in 44.21mins.
W.Midlands League Oldacre Results
West Midlands league event 9 was held at Oldacre, near Brocton, Staffs, and top runners on the Blue 6.79km course were 2nd Iain Embrey M21 42.44mins, 3rd Kirsten Strain W21 46.45mins and David Leadley M50 47.49mins. Stephen Elkington M18 was 2nd on the 4.4km Green course taking 43.30mins. Oliver Flippance M14 was 1st on the Light Green 3.51km course taking 37.39mins. Bruce Bryant M55 won the Short Green 3.49km course in 34.14mins and Peter Carey M70 was 3rd in 44.45mins. Juniors Cameron Williams-Stein M12 and Nathan Chapple M12 were 3rd and 4th respectively on the Orange 3.01km course and Kerrie Flippance W40 5th. On the White 1.23km course Tilly Flippance W10 was 3rd in 18.59mins.

NATIONAL INTERCLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
Congratulations to the two top runners, Matthew Elkington M20 and Harrison McCartney M18 who both earned the maximum 100 points by winning their classes in the final of the Compass Sport National Inter club championships. At the championships held on open limestone ridge terrain at Helsington Barrows, just south of Kendal in the Lake District, Octavian Droobers came 8th in the large club section of the event with 1928 points accrued by the top 25 highest scoring competitors from a total team of 45 club members.
Kirsten Strain W21 was top club woman points earner with 98 points, coming 3rd in her class, and Sheila Carey W65, came 4th, scoring 97 points, in her class. Nathan Lawson M18 scored 96 points, Iain Embrey M21 93, Peter Carey M70 89, Richard Gardner M60 85, Barry Elkington M55 82, Stephen Elkington M18 82 and Lesley Ross W45 82.
Competing at this event for the first time was junior, Oliver Flippance M14 who scored 78 points. Anne Straube W45 scored 77, Rachel Emmerson W20 76, Chris McCartney M45 71, Dave Marr M60 68, Bob Brandon M65 68, Club Captain Alistair Powell M35 67, John Bowman M70 67, Andy Emmerson M55 65, Roman Kotecky M65 62m Bruce Bryant M55 58, Jill Emmerson W50 57, another first timer junior Pippa Smart W12 56 and Liz Phillips W50 55.
At the Tockholes, steep sided, stream crossed and wooded, event in Lancashire, organised by Pendle Forest Orienteers, Bruce Bryant M55 won the Short Green 3.1km course in 36.51mins, Peter Carey M70 came 3rd in 45.13mins and Sheila Carey 4th in 49.41mins. Junior Max Straube-Roth M10 was 2nd on the Yellow 2.5km course in 40.06mins and Liz Phillips W50 was 5th on the Green 4.1km course in 49.39mins.
