RESULTS ROUND UP
Octavian Droober orienteers took advantage of several super events scheduled this past weekend. The popular two day event organised by Harlequins Orienteering Club was the favourite with many running around the town of Malvern on Saturday and at Castlemorton Common, near Welland, also in Worcestershire, on Saturday.
The 9th West Midland league event at Castleton Common saw OD totting up league points to remain leaders. On the Blue 6.8km course with 80m of climb, Felix Lunn M14 found the 19 strategically placed controls in 43.49mins closely followed by two more juniors taking 2nd, and 3rd places: Oliver Flippance M14 45.47mins and Oliver Lunn M14 47.19mins, a great triple result. David Leadley M50 was 4th on the Brown 10km course in 1.09.06min, Sheila Carey W70 was 3rd on the Green 4.7km course in 47.53mins and Peter Carey M70 5th in 49.12mins. Junior Tabitha Lunn W12 was 3rd in 48.15mins and Florence Lunn W14 5th in 52.37mins on the Light Green 3.5km course. Tilly Flippance W10 was 2nd on the White 2.1km course taking 26.28mins.
At Malvern Alfie Bullus M16 won the M16 and under class taking 13.33mins on the 2.4km course, Oliver Flippance M14 was 2nd in 14.59mins and Christian Roberts M14 5th in 22.49mins. Mateusz Podsiadly M21 was 3rd on the Mens Open 7.8km course in 55.28mins. Chris McCartney was also 3rd on the M40 6.6km course taking 42.42mins less than a minute behind the winner. Keith Willdig was 4th M65 on his 4.9km course in 45.47mins.
Racing around the town of Bourne in Lincolnshire proved popular too using club mapper Mike Hampton’s new map. Chris McCartney was 3rd on the Mens 6.59km Veteran course in 43.49mins, Keith Willdig was 2nd on the Mens Ultravet 4.22km course in 35.47mins and Mike Hampton 3rd in 37.26mins, Margaret Willdig was 3rd on the Womens Super Vet 4.22km course in 45.39mins.
At the Senior Home Internationals staged at Newborough forested dunes in Anglesey, the England team narrowly missed out with Scotland retaining the trophy by a single point. Club members representing England, Matthew Elkington and Harrison McCartney were in the England Relay team which came 3rd. In the individual races, Harrison was 2nd in the M20 class.

OD TEAM AMASS 2116 POINTS AND 5TH PLACE AT COMPASS SPORT CUP FINAL
A team of 60 club members, smaller than usual, nearly made it into 4th place this year, behind Deeside Orienteers 2161 points. The top 3 teams were Forth Valley with 2366, last year’s winner, South Yorkshire 2314 and Bristol Orienteers 2313.
South Yorkshire were the organisers of the national interclub event, sponsored by Compass Sport Orienteering Magazine, held in the woods at Tankersley, near Sheffield. Early runners had the disadvantage of heavy rain and the terrain proved quite tricky, a bit slippery with up to 280 metres of climb on courses, and controls were placed in some quite hard to find locations.
Alistair Powell, club captain was pleased with the overall result as the club moved up from 8th place last year, gained by some outstanding runs: 1st place for Felix Lunn M14 on the Orange 3.1km which took him 20.57mins and scored the maximum 100 points, Julie Emmerson W20 was 2nd in 35.52mins on the 4.5km Green Women course and scored 99 points and Rachel Emmerson W20 was 4th in 4056mins, scoring 97, Barry Elkington M60 was 4th on the Green Men 4.6km course in 41.34, scoring 97 points just 1 second ahead of Richard Gardner M60 scoring 96 points, 6th place for Peter Carey M70 took 45.09mins on the Short Green Veterans course scoring 98 points and on the longest Brown 9.8km course Matthew Elkington M21 was 8th and finding the 38 controls in 58.35mins scoring 95 points and William Gardner M21 took 60.49mins scoring 93.
The remainder of the 25 club members who made up the total score running on their respective courses were: Alistair Powell M35 70 points, Dave Chandler M21 60, Chris McCartney M45 65, Kirsten Strain W21 94, Anne Straube W40 81, Bruce Bryant M55 71, David Leadley M50 67, Lesley Ross W50 87, Liz Phillips W50 82, Tony Feltbower M60 88 points, Sheila Carey W70 89, Mike Hampton M70 88, Gerry Spalton M70 75, Sam Leadley M16 76, Oliver Flippance M14 86, Oliver Lunn M14 84, Pippa Smart W14 78.
In addition to the competition courses there was a beginners White 1.7km course and Tilly Flippance W10 came 1st out of 23 competitors, finding 11 controls in 13.51mins, a star in the making.
