URBAN AND SPRINT RACING WEEKEND
Running around streets and parkland in towns and cities is increasing in popularity and orienteers had many opportunities this weekend in which to compete. Becoming adept at taking short sharp directional changes to select the best route to each control at a fast pace is a skill that Will Gardner M21 was making this weekend at the Sprint Scotland triple event, around Bo’ness and Denny, competing against many overseas competitors. After racing into 2nd, 5th and 11th places respectively he earned an overall 7th place taking 44.23mins which was only 1 min 20 seconds behind the winner from Norway in the Mens Elite class.
RESULTS ROUND UP
The BOK Blast weekend organised by Bristol Orienteering Club was very popular. On Saturday competitors competed in both the morning and afternoon sprint races and combined results show some fine runs by Droobers: Nadine Wright was the overall winner of the Womens Open race, Chris McCartney was 5th on the Mens Vet race, Liz Phillips 5th on the Womens Super Vet course and Sue Hallett 9th Womens Ultra Vet course.
On Sunday, at the Urban race in Thornbury, Nadine Wright was 2nd on the Womens Open 9.8km race taking 57.51mins. Chris McCartney was 8th on the Mens Vet 9.8km course in 48.47mins.
