RECORD NUMBER OF COMPETITORS AT COOMBE ABBEY COUNTRY PARK
Phil Kirk, organiser, was delighted to welcome so many competitors and visitors to the BBQ and event at Coombe Abbey. It was pleasing to see so many of the newer members of the club come along with their families to run and walk the 4 courses. He also thanks the many helpers from the club that helped to make the event such a great success.
On the short Yellow 2k course Nirmal Mistry M12 from King Henry VIII School, Coventry, came in 1st in 15.10mins ahead of new member Daniel Hague M12 17.36mins and Isabella Fowler W12 also from King Henry School in 19.38mins. Bill Nicolson M45 won the Orange 3.4k course in 18.37mins, Richard Lowe M40 IND was 2nd in 20.18mins and Will James M21 SMOC 3rd in 20.40mins.
Club member Hamish Rogers M16 easily won the Green 4.6k course in 27.27mins, Peter Carey M65 was 2nd in 33.50mins and Suzanne Humphries W45 3rd in 35.08mins. International orienteer Riina Kuuselo W21 won the Blue 5.3k in 32.44mins just beating John Embrey M50 HOC into 2nd place in 33.29mins and visitor Ian Jones M40 from EYRI Wales was 3rd in 38.58mins. OD ARE CLASS WINNERS AT BREAKNECK BANK
Congratulations to club members who competed well at Breakneck Bank, in the Wyre Forest in Shropshire earning points for the club in the West Midlands league. The challenging event was organised by the Harlequins Orienteering club and competitors ran through the forest down steep banks and through undergrowth including brambles to complete the courses.
On the long Brown 9.4k course with 285 metres of climb Iain Embrey M21 came 2nd in 66 mins over all and in his class and Chris McCartney was 2nd in the M40 class in 91.06mins. Hamish Rogers M16 had a very good run winning the 6.6k 185 m Blue course outright in 58.27mins, easily winning his class. Also on the Blue course Lesley Ross W45 won her class in 73.57mins and Barry Elkington M55 was 2nd in his class in 69.58mins.
On the Green 4.6k 125m course, visiting 17 controls, Pete Carey came 3rd overall and 1st in his M65 class. Also on the Green course Trevor Simpson was 2nd in the M70 class, Janet Richardson 2nd in the W60 class. Junior Stephen Elkington was 1st on the Light Green 4k course in 75.20 and Tom Ross 2nd in their M14 class.
Sheila Carey W65 scored full points for the club in the league by winning the Short Green 3.4k course in 46.57mins and Hilary Simpson W70 also scored top points in her class.

The club wishes Matt Elkington M16 and William Gardner M18 every success in the European Youth Orienteering Championships being held this weekend in the Czech Republic.
Swift Valley, Rugby Results
Club member Thomas Honniball M21 won the Green 4.6k event in 33.05mins just ahead of junior Hamish Rogers M16 33.23mins and John Embrey M50 from Harlequins in 34.54mins. On the Orange 3.1k course Bill Nicolson M45 was 1st in 29.58mins, Liz Phillips W45 2nd in 31.41mins and first time orienteer from Rugby Steve Carter M50 was 3rd in 38.27mins. Sam Hart M12 easily won the Yellow 2.1k course in 26.35mins and Jason Adams M10 took 31.36mins and Nikhil Mistry M10 32.37 both from King Henry VIII junior school in Coventry.
