WEEKEND ROUND UP OF RESULTS
Octavian Droobers Club members, of all ages were competing around the country in day and night competitions and running for England at the Interland 2016 Trophy in Belgium, near Antwerp.
Oliver Lunn M14 made his debut appearance for England and was equal top British boy in the M14 category taking 47.35mins on the 4.7km course having tied with Finlay Johnson. Lesley Ross was 4th on the W50 course taking 55.26mins on the 5.5km course. The England team were 2 points behind the winning Belgium team.
The annual British University Orienteering Championships were held this year at the Forest of Dean and it was great to see 8 Octavian Droobers undergraduates competing for their Universities, including Coventry and Warwick. Hosted by Bristol University 200 individual athletes representing 28 universities competed at Moseley Green, Forest of Dean, in the individual and relay championship titles.
The 10.5km course with an impressive 385 metres of climb saw Will Gardner come 4th in 61.28mins and Matt Elkington 5th in 61.34mins both representing University of Sheffield, and less than 3mins behind University of Edinburgh’s Alexander Chepelin in the Men’s Individual Championship. Julie Emmerson, Durham University, was joint 6th in the Womens race taking 59.13mins on the 7.4km course. In the Men’s Relays Will and Matt nt brought their team in to a great second place and fellow Sheffield student Nathan Lawson’s team were 4th. Julie Emmerson’s relay team were placed 6th. Edinburgh University were overall winners with Sheffield 2nd.
After the West Midlands League event at Lizard Hill OD maintained their lead with 5362 points ahead of Wrekin’s 4844. Top scorers on the day included: 1st place for Felix Lunn M14 on the Green 4.1km course in 33.24mins, 1st for Peter Carey M70 on the Short Green 3.5km course in 37.16mins and 2nd Margaret Willdig W60 41.45mins, 1st for Florence Lunn W12 37.48mins and 2nd Tabitha Lunn W12 41.21mins on the Orange 2.8km course, David Leadley M50 2nd on the long Brown 8.2km course and Barry Elkington M60 2nd on the Blue 6.7km course. Finn Williams-Stein M8 was 1st on the White 1.4km course and Tilly Flippance W8 2nd in 26.03mins.
Ace of Herts event at Ashridge Estate, organised by Happy Herts Orienteering Club saw several OD’s in good form: Harrison McCartney M18 was 1st on the longest course the Black 13.68km, taking 68 mins, Kirsten Strain W21 2nd woman on the Brown 11.7km course and Carolyn Marr W65 2nd woman on the Short Green 4.475km course in 54.45mins
Bob Brandon staged an exciting night time orienteering competition at Rough Close, scout camp, Coventry, and armed with head torches 4 competitors managed to score 300 points: Felix Lunn, Andy Emmerson and Sam Leadley from OD and Andis Ozols from Derwent Valley Orienteers.

OCTAVIAN DROOBERS TOP THE LEAGUE AFTER FOUR RACES
After 4 events in the West Midlands League, Octavian Droobers are in top place with a score of 4322 points, earned by the top performing 25 club members and are well ahead of next placed Wrekin on 3922 points. Peter Carey M70 is leading with 400 points having won his class in all four events.
The 4th league event at Longdon Wood in the Wyre Forest, organised by Harlequin Orienteering Club, saw Mateusz Podsiadly M21, back from competing in the annual International Portuguese 4 day competition, coming 1st on the longest Brown 8.3km course in 63.02mins and David Leadley M50 5th in 70.03mins on the same course. Other top runs were achieved by Nathan Chapple M14 1st on the Light Green 3.7km course taking 59.45mins, Florence Lunn W12 1st in 43.24mins and Tabitha Lunn 3rd in 51.34mins on the Orange 3.5km course. Oliver Lunn M14 was 2nd in 45.29mins on the Green 5.4km course and Sam Leadley M16 was top junior on the Blue 6.2km course with 175 metres of climb taking 59.30mins. Third place was won by Sheila Carey W70 on the Short Green 4.5km course in 51.17mins.
After a great club coaching weekend in the Forest of Dean, several club members went on to do well at the regional BOK Trot, organised by Bristol Orienteering Club at Brierley in the Forest of Dean. Matthew Elkington M21 was on great form and came first on the longest Black 9.3km course with 515metres of climb finding all 28 controls in 1.06.57mins. Kirsten Strain W21 was 2nd woman on the Brown 8.2km course with 490metres of climb taking 91.17mins. Alfie Bullus was top junior on the Blue 5.4km course taking 76.11mins. Will Gardner M21 was 1st on the Short Blue 4.6km course in 36.57mins. Oliver Lunn M14 was 3rd on the Green 3.9km course with 220 metres of climb taking 42.05mins; Oliver Flippance was 4th in 42.19mins and Felix Flippance 7th in 48.07mins. Nathan Chapple M14 was 5th on the Light Green 3km course in 46.20mins. Florence Lunn W12 was 5th in 30.52mins and Tabitha Lunn W12 6th in 35.50mins on the Orange 2.5km course.
