HARRISON IS JUNIOR INTER REGIONAL CHAMPION
Congratulations to Harrison McCartney M16 who competed for the West Midlands Orienteering Association and came first in his class at the event staged at Graythwaite in the Lake District. Several members of OD junior squad also competed on the challenging terrain, some for the first time.
The Paris ‘O’ Tour urban weekend attracted Mike Hampton M65, via Eurostar, who came 2nd in all three races. On Saturday in the Middle Distance 3.9km event he took 37.04mins 2mins behind fellow Brit Mike Smithard from Deeside OC and on Sunday in the two concurrent sprint races he took 23.10mins on sprint 1 the 3.1km race and 28.19mins in the Sprint 2 3.3km race, again finishing just behind Mike Smithard.
Club members achieving top ten places at Wombwell in Yorkshire were: Peter Carey M70 6th in 46.13mins on the 4.4km Green course and Chris McCartney M45 also 6th in 61.09mins on the Brown 8.2km course.

FROM LONDON CITY TO LONG MYND AND OTHERS INBETWEEN
The 7th annual London City Race attracted 1000 competitors from around the UK and across Europe and forms part of the City Race Euro Tour, four races in major European cities: Porto, Edinburgh and Barcelona.
Several orienteers took part earlier in the morning in the city race in Brussels prior to hot footing it to the pavements of the London Race. Richard Gardner from Octavian Droobers was one who did the double and was placed 6th in the M60 class taking 35.53mins on the 4.8km race in Brussels and then came 34th in 51.07mins out of 132 entries on the 5.8k Super Vets course back in London.
Top OD runner at the London event was Harrison McCartney M16 in the Euro Youths M18/M20 class who came 2nd on the 7.1km course finding the 25 controls around famous landmarks including the Barbican, Gherkin and St Pauls Cathedral in 44.36mins only 2mins behind the winner. Chris McKenzie M21 from Warwick University was 3rd in the Mens Open 7.1km course in 49.03mins. In the Women’s Elite Sophie Kirk W21 was placed 5th taking 53.45mins on the 7.3km course, 2mins behind the winner.
Barry Elkington M55 had a good run and came 11th in the Super Vets class. In the Ultra Vets class for M65 and over Bruce Bryant M55 was 3rd in 38.15mins and Mike Hampton M65 9th in 42.22mins on the 4.4km course. Alfie Bullus was 10th on the M14 under 16 years 3.5km course taking 34.03mins. On the newcomers course of 3.6km first-timer Tom Gravelle M21 was 3rd in 37.07mins.
Tony Feltbower M60 was 4th on the Long Mynd 12.2km with 575 metres of climb course in 153.43mins. The annual event is a navigational challenging course for orienteers, mountain marathon and off road adventure racing competitors, and has steep sided valleys, stream crossings and contours. On the same course West Midlands Orienteering Association Chairman and club member Bob Brandon was 8th in 179.50mins.
At the Guildford City Race Sheila Carey W65 was 3rd in the Womens Ultra Vets 3.37km class in 37.43mins and Peter Carey 8th in the Mens Ultra Vet 4.36km class 49.33mins.
