STAFFORD URBAN RACE WINNERS
Mateusz Podsiadly, a new member of the club, made his debut in fine style at the Stafford Urban Race organised by Walton Chasers. Mateusz M20 raced around the town taking only 37.26mins on the 6.44km Course A with Harrison McCartney M16 2nd in 39.53mins. Chris McCartney M45 came 2nd on the 5.9km Course B in 35.45mins. Peter Carey M70 was placed first on the 4.12km Course D taking 34.32mins as was Robert Brandon M65 on 3.66km Course E taking 35.26mins. Sheila Carey W65 came 3rd in 37.48mins also on Course E.
There were some excellent performances by club juniors, representing their schools, in the British Schools Score Championships. The event was held at Arrow Valley Country Park, near Redditch. Top placed junior was Harrison McCartney who came 1st and Stephen Elkington 4th in the Year 12/13 boys class. Other top 5 places were secured by: Florence Lunn 3rd in Year 5 girls, Peter Markham 3rd in year 5 boys, Freya Lang 5th Year 7 girls, Felix Lunn 2nd Year 8, Oliver Lunn 5th Year 8, Aimee Morse 4th Year 12/13 girls, Rhiannon Cope 5th Year 12/13 girls.

ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT RESULTS
Over hundred participants enjoyed the sunshine and the lovely Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield. Several hundred pounds, final figure to be announced soon, were raised for Leukaemia research in memory of club member Tony Haw.
The excellent event organised by Lin Page and daughter Steph Howarth, with help from many club members, attracted newcomers and experienced orienteers from around the West Midlands. In this Score competition entrants had a maximum of 60 minutes in which to find and punch as many control points as possible which had been placed around the park and woodlands.
The winner was David Bunn from Thames Valley Orienteers who scored 340 points, 10 points for each control punched within the time limit. In second place was Chris McCartney M45 who scored 310 points and third was Barry Elkington M55 290 points taking 53.40mins just ahead of David Leadley M50 also with 290 points who took 59.43mins. Top woman was Delia Kingsbury W45 from Wrekin Orienteers who scored 250 points, 2nd was Lesley Ross W45 240 points and 3rd new club member Ronja Fell W21 230 points.
Juniors from local schools used the event to practice for the British Schools Score Championships which will be held at Arrow Valley, Worcestershire, next week. Top juniors in their age class were Joe Quinney M10 210 points, Stephen Elkington M18 260 points, Joseph Kwok M20 270 points, Callum Pearman M14, Ella Rose McCartney W14 180 points, Alastair Shiels M16 180 points, Rhiannon Cope W18 170 points, Louisa Woolley W16 170 points, Oliver Flippance M12 130 points and Emily Lloyd W12 from Potteries Orienteering Club with 120 points.
Down under in Australia club members Hilary and Trevor Simpson, from Stratford upon Avon, were celebrating successes watching their resident Australian son Andy Simpson M50 coming 1st in the Australian Sprint Championships and their own great results with Hilary winning the W75 class and Trevor 2nd in the M75 class.
Julie Emmerson W18 helped the GB relay team at the Junior European Championship in Belgium to a great 5th place and Julie, running the second leg pulled the team up to 3rd place before handing over to her team mate and an ultimate 5th place.
