JUNIORS  REPRESENT ENGLAND THIS WEEKEND

Congratulations to Harrison McCartney M18 and Felix Lunn M14 who will be representing England in the Junior Home Internationals against Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland this weekend at Simonside near Rothbury in North East England.  We wish them, and the England team, every success in the individual races and in the relays.

 

 

CADDIHOE CHASE, WEST MIDLANDS RELAYS AND JUNIOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Plenty of orienteering was available to club members this weekend and club members recorded some very notable successes at these.

First Will Gardner M21 is to be congratulated on winning the prestigious annual Caddihoe Chase Trophy staged over 2 days which this year was run close to Studland Bay in heather strewn open marshy land and through forests overlooking Poole Harbour in Dorset. The visually beautiful terrain was very tricky to traverse with large tussocks interspersed with deep marshy pockets and crisscrossed with fallen trees. His total time was 122.42mins after taking 59.51mins on the 9.875km with 240 metres of climb on Day 1 and 62.51mins on the second day with a chasing start, fastest starting first, on the 9.525km course.

Young club member Max Straube-Roth was placed 1st on the M10 short course taking an overall 35.31mins (Day 1 18.33mins and Day 2 16.58mins). Hilary Simpson was 1st W75 141.29mins overall (51.03min and 90.26mins). Anne Straube was 2nd W40 with a total of 135.41mins and Lesley Ross was 2nd W50 in 114.42mins. Trevor Simpson was 3rd M75 with a total of 116.21mins on his courses.

Congratulations to OD club team members who came 1st in the West Midlands Relays at Shoal Hill Staffordshire: Josie Smart, Tabitha Lunn and Florence Lunn won the Mini Relay, Sue Hallett, Sheila Carey and Sue Bicknell won the Super Vet Women, Oliver Lunn, Oliver Flippance and Felix Lunn won the Junior Men, Bob Brandon, Keith Willdig and Gerry Spalton won the Super Vet Men.

At the Junior European Championships, held in Scotland, club member Harrison McCartney representing GB was 4th on the M18 Sprint race in 12.54mins only 30 seconds behind the winner from Sweden. Julie Emmerson was 13th in the W20 race taking 14.41mins. In the Relays Julie’s team came in 5th place

At the Dishley Grange Urban event in Leicestershire, Sheila Carey was 1st on the Women’s Super Vet 4.2km course taking 31.59mins, David Lawson was 1st in 37.30mins and Chris McCartney was 2nd in 38.12mins on the Men’s Veteran 6.3km course, Keith Willdig was 3rd in 35 mins on the Men’s Ultra vet 4.2km course
