OCTAVIAN DROOBERS WIN LAURIE BRADLEY TROPHY

 

The annual West Midlands Inter Club event held at Sandwell Valley, Birmingham, on New Year’s Day was won by Octavian Droobers with a score of 4750 points well ahead of Harlequins 3900 and Walton Chasers 3650.

The club captain, Alistair Powell thanked all the club members who turned out on the cold and blustery morning to compete and congratulated the 25 top scorers for the club from across the 16 differing age classes. Highest scorer was Matthew Elkington M20 with 300 points, the only competitor to find all 30 controls, around the country park and onto Hilltop and Manwood areas, within the 1 hour time limit taking 56.48 mins. Andy Emmerson M55 scored 260 points finding 26 within the time limit and Richard Gardner M60 scored 230 as did Barry Elkington M55.

Other scorers were: Tony Feltbower M60 220, Stephen Elkington M18 220, Alistair Powell M35 220, Jane Feltbower W60 210, Gerry Spalton M65 210, Dave Marr M60 200, Peter Carey M70 200, Sheila Carey W65 200, Rachel Emmerson W20 200, John Ward M70 190 Felix Lunn M14 190, Oliver Lunn M14 190, Carolyn Marr W65 180, Trevor Simpson M75 170, Philip Kirk M55 170, Karin Kirk W65 160, Philip May M60 160 and Sian Gardner W55 160.

The TSB Trophies for the best juniors at the event were won by Stephen Elkington, sharing it with Matt Hartland from Walton Chasers and Florence and Tabitha Lunn from OD won the girls’ trophy.

National Squad Selections

British Orienteering has announced the names of the 2015 Talent and Performance Squads. Congratulations to the five club members who have been selected to receive additional sports specific training to become world class athletes. Matthew Elkington M20 is in the Watch Squad, Harrison McCartney M16, Nathan Lawson M18 and Julie Emmerson W20 are in the Talent Squad and Will Gardner M21 in the Development Squad. The club wishes them every success.
