HARTSHILL HAYES COUNTRY PARK RESULTS

200 entrants, of all ages, from across the midlands competed in the long awaited return to Hartshill Hayes Country Park event, near Nuneaton. Organiser Sheila Carey thanked the many volunteers who contributed to the making of the fine and enjoyable day at the park, over 15 years since the last visit.

Anne Straube organised a popular mini maze as an introduction to the sport and warm up prior to the event. The youngest juniors had a chance to show their skills on the short White 1.3km course finding 10 control points and the winner was Esther Mardling W10 in 12.17mins from Walton Chasers Club, Mae Quinney W10 was second in 13.59mins and Rupert Powell M10 was 3rd in 36.13mins. On the Yellow 1.7km course also with 10 controls Alex Merrill M12 from Harlequins was first in 27.29mins just ahead of M Spencer W10 27.47mins and Thomas Chapple M10 28.52mins. First timer Alice Mangarine W21 along with Phil Pavey M21 easily won the Orange 1.9km course taking 18.15mins, Edmund Joyner M21 was 2nd in 30.08mins and Peter Markham M10 3rd in 32.29mins.

Oliver Lunn M14 was 1st on the Light Green 2.7km course with 16 controls in 35.46mins; Rebecca Nisbet W14 from South Midlands Orienteering Club was 2nd in 36.06mins and Adam Mardling M14 Walton Chasers 3rd in 40.25mins. Wrekin’s Brian Morris M70 was 1st on the Short Green 3.2km course taking 39.22mins, Rebecca Hemsley W21 2nd in 39.30mins and Anthony Walker M50 3rd in 40.38mins. There was a tight finish on the Green 3.7km course with 18 controls, Ray Collins M60 Walton Chasers was 39.11mins just ahead of Robert Brandon M65 39.19mins and Guy Ross M20 40.08mins.

Wrekin club members took the two top places on the Blue 4.9km course with 150 metres of climb and 16 controls: Richard Pay M50 38.51mins and Adrian Pickles M55 40.46mins and OD member David Leadley was 3rd in 40.50mins, only 4 seconds behind. OD club members dominated the longest course, Brown 5.4km with 190 metres of climb: Matthew Elkington M20 was first in 32.38mins, William Gardner M21 2nd in 32.54mins, Nathan Lawson M18 was 3rd in 38.17mins and club captain Alistair Powell M35 was 4th in 40.38mins.
