OD Chair becomes a director of British Orienteering
OD's Chair, Keith Willdig, has become a Director on the board of the sport's governing body, British Orienteering. Keith said that it was an honour to represent the sport which, in common with other sports, faces some challenges. He also said there is a growing range of leisure activities competing for the time people have available and, as we hear in the press, the nation is becoming more sedentary and less healthy. While a challenge, this also presents an opportunity as there is a growing call for more people to engage in healthy sports and also to enjoy the outdoors and countryside at our door. Both play to the strengths of our sport. At the moment, we currently hear the drumbeat of the news cycle talking about cuts to government spending in the upcoming budget. Orienteering is not immune from this and, although our Sport England funding seems assured for a while, there can be no guarantees and it will be a perennial focus for the board.
