Organiser's / Planner's comments:

This event is the culmination of a project I set myself to have a go at mapping two years ago.  I noticed that Crack’s Hill was on OD’s list of mapped areas from some time ago.  In recent years new woodlands have been planted and Crick Community Sports Centre with car park has been constructed, making the location a possibility for an orienteering event just a mile from home. With the kind permission of the sports centre, community woodland and Crick Parish Council we have been able to undertake an event.

We were blessed with some excellent late September weather.  Feedback from orienteers who entered the Long and Medium courses was generally good, with one or two orienteering challenges in what is admittedly not a difficult area.  There was some relief on the part of the Planner that all the controls were in the right place!

There were one or two suggestions that Crack’s Hill and its surrounding woodlands, with north Crick excluded, may lend itself to future sprint or relay event at a larger map scale, the location also having ease of parking and facilities.
This was the first event for some time where I am pleased to say we had EOD, and with Karin’s efforts we were able to introduce a few newcomers to the sport.  I am hopeful that this may lead to one or two new recruits.

Finally, in addition to Karin mentioned above, I would like to thank all the volunteers who made this event happen – Bruce, for making many improvements to my map and helping with other administrative issues; Tom, for collecting car parking money (which I think will help if we ask the sports centre to use their facilities again); Phil, for helping newcomers at the start; Graham and Liz on Download; and Richard and Will on Registration and staying on to help with control collection.
