Organiser's Comments:
Last year, when I agreed to plan and organise this event, little did I know that I was going to need kidney surgery 3 weeks beforehand!
So a few weeks ago, I was very relieved when John Middler offered to put out the Controls for me. I had a successful operation at the end of June and was glad to be recovered enough to do Registration at the event.
Thank you all for coming in spite of a hot muggy evening with the threat of a thunderstorm which happily did not occur. (Liz Phillips added ‘thunderstorms’ to the Risk Assessment having seen the forecast. John M did a great job putting out controls and bringing most of the equipment. I had welcome help on Registration from Paul and Joe Quinney. Karin Kirk pulled in anyone who showed a bit of interest, showing beginners how to get started, with support from Sue Hallett and Kerrie Flippance. Leo helped too.
There were some encouraging comments from several runners.
A willing band of volunteers (Bob Brandon, Phil May, Paul Quinney and Joe Finney) collected in the controls. Only one went missing during the event, No 123, (No. 4 on Orange) which was quickly replaced, so no-one was disqualified.
Thank you to all the helpers.
I was pleased the next event day to visit the hospital to be given the ‘all clear’ and be told that as far as exercise is concerned, I could do anything I liked now, so I celebrated with a little gentle run! Thank you to all who have sent their good wishes.
