Organiser's Comments

Sunshine, warmish temperatures and no wind – not a bad start to the event. A large turnout of Droober helpers who managed the event with impressive efficiency.

Many thanks to Carolyn, Lin, Keith, Andy and Julie on the start. I am most appreciative for the help of the non-orienteering members of my family, Hilary and Megan who ran registration. Results were processed and recorded by Jill, Greta, John Bowman, Chris and John Middler. Liz oversaw the finish ensuring the youngsters remembered to ‘punch’ and pointed them in the direction of download. Pete, Kerrie, Bob and Barry also helped to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Karin sent hours organising the schools’ competition and clarifying my thinking for me, not to mention tidying up after my mistakes. Dave Chandler made good use of Bruce’s new map of the Memorial Park to plan courses which promoted some close competition among the young people taking part.

Thanks also to the large number of children and young adults who enthusiastically competed for their schools. Most seemed to enjoy the experience and I would like to add my congratulations to those who were successful. The memory that sticks in my mind is the young girl who started and charged up the hill towards the first control, only to be called back by Carolyn who suggested that taking a map with her might be a better tactic.
