Controller's Report

With its short grazed grass and technical upper section, Burton Dassett is a good place to orienteer in summer when many other venues become unpleasantly vegetated. Phil organised the best weather in a miserable week and several families enjoyed picnics in the country park after the event. Comments made by runners at the finish were very complimentary about Richard’s courses and about Bruce Bryant’s superb map. There was unanimous approval of the use of flat plates on the technical top. If only this were bigger! Much time was spent discussing how to manage Brit O safety rules. On the day the difficult decision was taken to remove two controls, which affected legs on 4 courses, because heavy gliders were likely to be launched and landed across a short leg on Light Green (used by U16s). Richard and the OD team worked hard to correct all the maps and control descriptions (both loose and on the map) whilst I took over the job of taping the sections on White that had no line features. I was able to do an independent check on the maps before most runners started .It was pleasing that no whinges were directed to me on the day and no one’s enjoyment seems to have been affected. A good event: well done OD.
