We were a little surprised at how many people turned up - we only had 18 entries by the closing date so we printed 31 maps to allow plenty of scope. In the end, we had 33 people run the score although 3 of the original 18 entries didn't arrive. All the late entries were regular orienteers, so it is a good reminder to pre-enter to guarantee getting a map.
Malvern & Brueton Parks have developed quite a bit since most of us ran there. It's a venue that we need to use a little more regularly. The 45-minute score format was driven by the need to close the courses early to allow time for controls to be collected in the daytime. I wanted to offer a straightforward score rather than an odds-and-even or dog-bone format which restricted course lengths a little, loops are not possible on a simple score course. In the end, 11 out of the 33 competitors visited all 20 controls within the time limit. The weather was kind to us all and the last runner was back well before course closing time.
Malvern and Brueton Parks are a good venue for a local event and our traditional short, medium & long format would work well here. A couple of sprint courses would also fit nicely into Brueton Park where the proliferation of possible control sites would demand concentration to ensure that the correct one is dibbed.
