OD WIN NEW YEARS DAY TROPHY
Octavian Droobers celebrated the start to the New Year by winning the West Midlands Laurie Bradley Trophy held at Twemlows Wood, near Whitchurch, Shropshire. The 60 minute score event, organised by Wrekin Orienteers attracted an excellent turnout and some great performances from the club. OD won with a total of 6420 points, WRE were 2nd scoring 5610 and Harlequins 3rd with 5080 points.
Of the 25 scorers 8 achieved maximum of 300 points by visiting all controls within the time limit: Julie Emmerson W16, Jessica Halliday W21, Matthew Elkington M16, William Gardner M18, Matthew Halliday M20, Barry Elkington M40, Richard Gardner M55 and Robert Brandon M60. Other scorers were Sophie Kirk W20 290points, Andy Emmerson M50 290 points, Lesley Ross W45 270, Bill Nicolson M45 260, Jane Halliday W50 250, Alan Halliday M55 250 points, Jamie Nicolson M12 240, Trevor Simpson M70 240, Joanna Halliday W21 230. On 220 points were Kevin Ross M45, Philip May M55, John Middler M55 and John Bowman M65 and on 210 points were Alastair Gardner M16, Philip Kirk M55 and John Boden M60 and Tom Ross M14 scored 190 points.
The trophy for the best junior performance went to Will Gardner M18.
CLUB MEMBERS SELECTED TO REPRESENT ENGLAND
Six club members will travel to North West Germany to represent England in the annual Interland match on 6 March between teams from Netherlands, France, Germany, and Belgium.
Congratulations to Aimee Morse W14, Sophie Kirk W20, Lesley Ross W45, Sheila Carey W65, Matt Elkington W16 and Matt Halliday M20.

RESULTS FROM ASHORNE HILL AND OAKLEY WOOD
This event organised by Bob Brandon, planned by John Ward and controlled by Sue Bicknell, with help from many club members attracted entrants from all around the midlands. The high attendance was due in part to the bright frosty morning and young visitors from around the area training for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The beautiful woods and open fast runnable areas were used to the maximum to provide 7 different courses of varying length and technical difficulty.
On the short White 1.6k course Edith Stagg W6 from Bristol Orienteering Club was 1st on in 22.08mins. Annabel Rayner OD W12 won the Yellow 1.8k course in 17.14mins, Heather Rogers W12 OD was 2nd in 17.55mins and Derek Sewell and Ben Wines M14 IND were 3rd in 25.45mins.
On the Orange 3.2k course Joanna Goodhead W12 from Derwent Valley was 1st in 39.26mins, 2nd was Andrew Edwards M50 Leicester 53.14mins and Douglas Baker M80 Thames Valley 3rd in 57.11mins. Winner of the Light Green 3.9k course was Matt Elkington M16 OD in 23.05mins, 2nd Rachel Elkington W14 OD 25.10mins and 3rd Julie Emmerson W14 OD 27.39mins.
Bob Brandon M60 OD was 1st on the Green 5.4k course in 35.33mins, Nathan Lawson M14 Derwent Valley 2nd 37.37mins and Mike Hampton M60 OD 3rd in 38.10mins. Winning places were taken by all OD runners on the Blue 7.5k course 1st Chris McCartney M40 46.04mins, 2nd Will Gardner M18 48.13mins and 3rd Barry Elkington M50 48.30mins.
On the long Brown 8.8k course club member Will Crichley M21 travelled down from Newcastle to easily win the race in 46.57mins, 2nd was Kevin Fielding from Happy Herts in 53.15 and 3rd Thomas Honniball M21 Lincoln Orienteering Club in 53.41mins.
The event included the annual club championships and full results will be announced, prizes awarded and presented by Paul Okey, Sports Editor of the Leamington Courier on Wednesday 22nd December at the club’s Christmas Party to be held at The Wardens, Kenilworth.
