RESULTS FROM LAKE DISTRICT, YORKSHIRE WEEKENDS AND OTHER EVENTS
The Graythwaite middle distance and Lingmoor Long Distance in the Lake District and the Northern Championships at Thirsk and Wass, were national events and attracted orienteers from all over the UK.
Lingmoor Long distance saw Matthew Elkington M21 race home in 1st place on the longest 9.87km course with 515 metres of climb in 73.43minutes, ahead of fellow OD’s William Gardner M21 in 2nd, 76.30mins and Duncan Birtwistle M21 4th in 84.27mins. Kirsten Strain was 4th W21 on the Short Brown 6.86km course with 325 metres of climb taking 72.57mins and Anne Straube W40 was 4th woman on the Blue 5.96km 260 metre climb course in 67.13mins.
At the Graythwaite middle distance race Matthew Elkington M21 did the double and was the winner on the longest course, Black 5km with 240 metres of climb taking 32.24mins just ahead of 2nd placed Will Gardner 33.08 and Duncan Birtwistle was 8th in 37.27mins. Julie Emmerson W21 was 2nd on the Brown Women 4.6km course in 40.57mins and Kirsten Strain 7th in 44.13mins. Anne Straube was 3rd in 43.45mins on the Blue Women 4.1km course.
Pippa Smart was 6th on the Junior Women course at the Urban race around Thirsk taking 32.02mins on the 3.8km course. At the Wass event Harrison McCartney was 7th M20 on the 8.1km course in 68.48mins. Florence Lunn was 7th on the W14 3.2km course in 56.12mins.
Leicestershire Orienteering Club organised the Castle Hill event and Anne Straube W40 was 2nd woman on the Blue 7km course taking 54.35mins and Max Straube-Roth M10 was 6th on the 2.2km Yellow course taking 36.10mins.

RESULTS FROM RUGBY URBAN, HARDWICK AND NORWICH
It was a busy weekend for Octavian Droobers who travelled around the country to compete in town, city, woods and parkland in pursuit of British ranking points and experience on a wide variety of terrain.
Congratulations to Will Gardner M21 on being selected to represent Great Britain in the European Championships to be held in Ticino, Switzerland from 5th to 13th May. He will compete in the middle distance and will be a reserve in the long distance championship events.
Over 100 participants, including several newcomers from around Rugby, competed at the West Midlands Urban League Rugby (East) event with courses encompassing Hillmorton streets and parks, starting and finishing in Whinfield Park. Benjamin Rauffet, Harlequins, was 1st on the Mens Open 7.7km course finding all 28 controls in a time of 53.46mins, David Leadley was 2nd in 56.41mins and Oliver Lunn 3rd in 60.24mins. On the Womens Open and Mens Veteran courses, Harriet Lawson was 1st in 50.50mins on the 6.4km course, Ian Hopkins, Wrekin, was 2nd in 51.39mins and Mike Wheeler 3rd in 51.47mins. On the Womens Veteran and Mens Super Vet 5.7km course Mike Snell was 1st in 42.08mins Lesley Ross 2nd in 44.42mins and Gordon Parker, South London, was 3rd in 45.11mins.
Ian Prowse, North Gloucester, was 1st on the Mens Ultra Vet and Womens Super Vet 4.6km course in 38.27mins, Paul Graetz, Potteries, 2nd in 40.30mins and Doug Dickinson, Derwent Valley 3rd in 41.39mins. Sheila Carey was 1st in 36.09mins on the Womens Ultra Vet, Mens Hyper Vet and Womens Hyper Vet course 3.5km course taking 36.09mins, Robert Vickers, Harlequins, was 2nd in 44.31mins and Caitlin Chafer, Leicestershire, 3rd in 47.25mins. Mens Junior and Womens Junior 4.4km course was won by Oliver Flippance in 27.04mins, Florence Lunn 2nd 41.11mins and Eoin Hankinson 3rd in 45.14mins. On the introductory 2.7km course for beginners and younger juniors, newcomer Karl Spencer was 1st in 38.45mins, William Newton was 2nd in 39.06mins and Darcy Dunn 3rd in 39.25mins.
At Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire, club members ran around the parklands of this National Trust property, organised by Derwent Valley Orienteers, and Joanne Leigh won the Orange 3.2km course in 31.53mins, John Middler was 9th on the Short Green 3.7km course in 37.58mins, Chris McCartney was 5th on the Blue 7.1km course in 46.36mins and Lesley Ross was 10th in 49.14mins, the fastest woman on that course.
Liz Phillips was 2nd fastest woman on the 5.1km course at the Norwich City Urban event taking 54.16mins. Bruce Bryant was 10th on the 4.2km course in 42.02mins
