University of Warwick Campus Orienteering Event

The resumption of orienteering races has been welcomed by orienteers around the midlands and many runners competed around the campus of Warwick University, organised by Octavian Droobers Orienteering Club, partly to train for the upcoming British Sprint Championships held last weekend.

On the long course Oliver Flippance M20 was the winner taking 42.12mins just ahead of John Owens M50, British Army Orienteering Club 43.15mins and Alistair Landels M50 44.30mins. On the medium course Brian Ward M55 from HALO club was 1st in 26.55mins, Joel Taylor M16 Thames Valley Orienteering Club 2nd in 27.20mins and Paul Taylor M45 3rd in 29.03mins also TVOC.  Ben Flippance M40 was 1st on the Short Course in 50.06mins and Hilary Simpson W80 2nd in 56.44mins. On the under 16 course the winner was Anna Todd W14 from South Yorkshire in 17.28mins, Nathan Taylor M14 2nd,.18.40mins, TVOC, and Eoin Simpson Leicestershire O. Club M12 3rd in 20.11mins.

The final positions for runners at the British Sprints Championships resulted in a great win for Max Straube-Roth in the M12 class, 1st in 12.30mins on the 2.2km course. Kirsten Strain was also 1st in the W35A class and Anne Straube was 5th in the same race..

Nathan Lawson M21 was 3rd in the Mens Open Championships. Chris McCartney was 4th in the M50A championships race, Bruce Bryant 6th in the M60A class, Barry Elkington 5th in the M65 class, Peter Carey 2nd and Mike Hampton 4th in the M75 class. Sheila Carey took 2nd place and Sue Bicknell 3rd in the W75A class.

Membership is available to all who would like to join in and experience this adventure sport. The club is planning a series of events throughout the autumn and keen runners and orienteers can find these on the club website www.octavian-droobers.org  and all nationwide events are on the www.britishorienteering.org.uk. website, see events section.  Entries have to be prebooked and are currently only for members of clubs.
