The Dukeries at Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood Trophy Results

The popular event attracted well over 400 entries to some very pleasant woods. The Robin Hood Trophy was won by South Yorkshire with a huge entry of 100 competitors and Octavian Droobers team of 38 did well to come in 4th place not far behind Derwent Valley and hosts Nottingham Orienteering Clubs.

Top male club runners were: William Gardner M21 2nd in 73.06mins on the longest course, Black 12.9km with 120 metres of climb averaging 5.7 mins per kilometre only 2 mins behind the winner; Barry Elkington M60 5th in 52.39 mins on the Blue 6.8km course; Mike Hampton M70 4th on the Green 4.8km course in 48.21mins; Peter Carey M70 4th on the Short Green 3.8km. Top OD female runners were: Lesley Ross W50 on the Blue course in 58.46mins, Margaret Willdig W60 53.23mins on the Green course and Sue Bicknell W70 51.10mins on the Short Green course.

Burton Dassett Night Orienteering results

Bob Brandon, organised an after dark score event with competitors having to find as many of the 30 controls as possible in the 45 minute time limit, armed with head torches. William Gardner M21 was the most successful finding 29 and scoring 290 in a time of 34.58mins, Felix Lunn M16 took 45.47mins and found all the controls but incurred a penalty of 10 points for over running the time limit also scoring 290 points. Jeremy Knott M21 was 3rd in 45.54mins finding 27 scoring 260 points with a penalty of 10 points. The next after dark event will be at Hartshill Hayes, near Nuneaton on Saturday 18th February.
