Droobers head to Gloucester

The Bank Holiday weekend saw many Droobers head for the Forest of Dean for a weekend of orienteering in both forest and town. At Mallards Pike on Saturday 2nd May 2015 the event was in the Forest of Dean Freddie Walker, Mateus Podsiadly , Roger Hailey, Anne Straube and Liz Phillips all won their courses. Chris Markham, Daniel Walker and Peter Markham were in second place on theirs while Sheila Carey came in third on W65 and Max Straube – Roth was fourth.

After a very wet night for those camping the event moved to Gloucester. This urban event was based around the dock area and was quite challenging. Pippa Smart was the only winner from OD on the W12 course in a time of 13.16 well ahead of the next competitor. Peter Markham and Sheila Carey were both 2nd on their courses and Bruce Bryant was third on the Men’s Sprint course.

Mike Hampton was in the meantime seeing how many Urban races he could manage over one weekend. He took part in the Sheffield Urban race on Saturday 2nd May 2015 coming second in the Men’s Vet class. On the Sunday he headed to Gloucester where he managed a creditable sixth place before heading over to Nottingham City on the Monday where he won his race.
