BRITISH NIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS

The annual Night Championships were held at Pippingford Park, East Sussex, and three Droobers were crowned champions of their respective age classes:  Harrison McCartney M16 who took 48.23mins on the 5.9k course with 185 metres of climb, Julie Emmerson W18 45.57mins on the 4.9k course with 145 metres of climb and Peter Carey M70 56.34mins on the 4.2k course with 130 metres of climb. Anne Straube W35 was placed 3rd taking 65.49mins on the 6.9k course as was Sheila Carey W65, 57.05mins on the 3.2k course.

At the event staged during the day, also at Pippingford Park, Harrison McCartney came in 3rd place on the longest Brown 10.3k course taking 74.16mins and young four year old Max Straube-Roth came 3rd on the short White 1.5k course taking 34.51mins.

 

BRITISH UNIVERSITY ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Great results for OD club members representing their universities in the annual championships which this year were organised by Leeds University. The individual event was held at Ilkley Moor and the relays at Danefield, near Otley, both in Yorkshire.

The overall winning University was Sheffield and both Will Gardner and Matthew Elkington played leading roles in this result. On the long 9.75k course in the individual event Will Gardner took 64.59mins to take 3rd place and Matt Elkington came in 9th in 72.32mins. Sophie Kirk, representing Imperial College came in 14th place taking 72.57mins on the 7k Women’s course. Will’s relay team of three had a great run and came in first in 101.07mins only 1 second ahead of Matt’s team to clinch the top overall University placing. Sophie Kirk’s team with two Imperial men came 1st in the Ad Hoc relays taking 96.11mins ahead of Heriot-Watt University’s 98.09mins.

Mediterranean Orienteering Championships

In Portugal, on high rocky terrain, Riina Kuuselo, running in the W21 Elite World Ranking event, came 24th out of a field of 74 runners taking 47.35mins on the 4.8k course and 12th out of 59 runners in 84.59mins on the long distance 9.7k course. Finishing with an overall placing of 12th she was also placed 23rd in the day sprint event. Mike Hampton M65 was 5th on the middle distance 2.9k course taking 37.45mins and 10th on the Long Distance 4.5k course taking 53.50mins and placed overall 7th. He came 4th in the Night sprint event.

North Gloucestershire Event Results

At the Knockalls enclosure event, organised by North Gloucester, Lesley Ross W45 came in 4th place on the 5.3k Blue course with 295 metres of climb taking 57.01mins and Kevin Ross was 3rd on the Short Green 2.6k course in 41.42mins
