DROOBERS ON PODIUM IN NATIONAL FINALS
A team of nearly 70 represented Octavian Droobers in the Compass Sport national inter club final and thanks to brilliant efforts running in the Forest of Dean the club took second place. Vice Captain, Suzanne Humphries, was very pleased with this great achievement and thanked everyone who ran.
She also congratulated the winners of the Golden Boot trophy, awarded to the fastest runners on the run in to the finish. OD have won this for the third year running and this year it was awarded to Nathan Lawson, Matthew Elkington was second and Will Gardner third. Julie Emmerson won the inaugural Ladies Golden Boot and Rachel Emmerson was third. Suzanne paid tribute to our ā€™pretty zippy Droobersā€™.
Of the 25 runners in the final who counted towards the overall points scored, in top 5 places in their races were: Will Gardner who won the Blue Men course, Julie Emmerson who won the Green Womens course with Lesley Ross second on the same course, and on the Light Green Mens course Matthew Elkington came 1st and brother Stephen Elkington came 5th. Ella-Rose McCartney was 2nd on the Orange Womens Course, Aimee Morse 4th and Harriet Lawson 5th on the Light Green Womens course, Sheila Carey 4th on the Short Green Vets course, Sophie Kirk 4th on the Blue Womens course and Mike Hampton 4th on the Green Mens course. Several members were making their first appearance in a national event and first timer Ian Prowse had a great run on the Green Mens course to score for the club.
Bristol Orienteering Club organised the event and were declared winners with a score of 2333 points ahead of Octavian Droobers 2202 points and Lakeland Orienteering Club 2119. Full results are on the Bristol Orienteering website.
Alongside the main event on two courses for non competitors youngster Pippa Smart came 1st on the Yellow course and sister Josie was placed 3rd on the short White course.
