CLUB MEMBERS WIN 9 TROPHIES AT WEST MIDLANDS RELAYS

Thelma Spalton, organiser, Bob Brandon, planner and many helpers from Octavian Droobers staged the annual West Midlands inter club relays at Pooley Fields Country Park near Polesworth in the north of the county. 54 Droobers competed in teams of 3 and won 9 out of the 12 classes entered. ‘It was a brilliant result especially as we had so many new members competing in their first relay competition,’ said vice captain Suzanne Humphries.

Suzanne was very pleased that the young juniors won back the Mini relay trophy after a few years gap. The team of Olivia Bailey, Matthew Kermode and Luke Cherry just held off their competitors by only 3 seconds. Alfie Bullus, Heather Rogers and Alex Bailey won the Junior Men’s Trophy and Stephen Elkington, Guy Ross and John Leyden won the Intermediate Men. Lesley Ross, Anne Straube and Amy Sarkies running as the ‘OD All Stars’ took the Open Women’s Trophy beating the OD Superstars team into 2nd place. Alan Segar, Matthew Elkington and Will Gardner ‘OD Lightning Bolts’ shot round to win the Men’s Open Trophy and Liz Cross, Liz Phillips and Jill Emmerson took the Senior Women Prize.

Margaret Willdig, Lin Page and Jane Halliday won the Veteran Women’s event and in the Super Veteran category both the Men’s team of John Ward, Peter Carey and Gerry Spalton and Women’s team of Sheila Carey, Karin Kirk and Greta Greenall all came up trumps and triumphed. All teams were presented with trophies and received prizes by sponsors BUFF headwear.
