CLUB MEMBERS TO REPRESENT ENGLAND

Five club members have been selected to represent England at the Interland six cornered match against two Belgian teams, Netherlands, North West Germany and Northern France. Congratulations go to Sheila Carey W65, Lesley Ross W40, Julie and Rachel Emmerson W16 and Harrison McCartney M14 who will travel to the match which takes place on 22 April in Habay-la-Nueve, South Belgium.

WELSH CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

At the Cardiff City Race on Saturday Mike Hampton M65 came 2nd on the medium 4k course in 33.32mins. On the Sunday Welsh Championships at Pwll Du Anne Straube W35 was 1st on her course in 72.38mins as was Hilary Simpson on the W70 course in 98.23mins. Taking second places were Heather Rogers in 49.14mins on the W14 course and Julie Emmerson 42.28mins on the W16 course. Liz Phillips W45 and Trevor Simpson M70 were both placed 3rd on their courses. Competing on the Blue course Harrison McCartney M14 came 2nd in 56.57mins, Calum Barnetson M20 3rd in 60.06mins and Matt Elkington M18 4th in 62.02mins. Bruce Bryant M55 was 1st on the Short Blue course in 59.37mins and on the Green course Jeremy Knott M16 2nd in 59.18mins with Daniel Roth M40 3rd in 60.32mins.

TED NORRISH TROPHY

The Ted Norrish Trophy, donated by the club’s founder, is awarded each year at the club’s annual dinner. This year the trophy was awarded to Sue Bicknell for her outstanding contribution and long term service to the club. The trophy was presented by last year’s winner John Bowman.

 EVERDON STUBBS RESULTS

Suzanne Humphries, with several helpers, organised a well attended event in the sunshine at lovely Everdon Stubbs woods near Daventry and welcomed many newcomers to orienteering. Blake M12 and Candice Jones enjoyed their first experience of the sport and came in 1st on the short Yellow 1.5k course in 27.39mins followed by Frances King W50 in 28.28mins and young Henry Jeffries M4 in 3rd in 33.55mins. On the Orange 2.3k course Mia Campbell W10 came 1st in 35.27mins; Xiaoying Li W21 was 2nd in 37.30mins and Kathryn Stuart W21 3rd in 38.54mins. Thomas Honniball M21 was only 5 secs ahead, 33.38mins, of Richard Windsor M50 from Leicester Orienteers in 33.43mins and Wendy Billing W50 from South Yorkshire was 3rd in 41.50mins on the Green 3.4k course. On the 4k course with 26 controls Suzanne planned a novel letter coded event inviting entrants to make up phrases and the winner was Bob Brandon, Club Chairman, followed by Chris McCartney and Alan Halliday in 3rd place.
