Droobers looking to engage a Club Development Officer
OD members voted to bid for grant support to part-fund a Club Development Officer at the 2024 AGM on October 9th. Our bid submission has now gone forward and we hope to hear whether it has been approved early in November. If the bid is successful, we will immediately look to identify a suitable person so that we can get the project up and running in the New year.
A number of clubs across the country have already engaged a Club Development Officer so there is now quite a lot of info around about the types of things that work well. If successful, one of the first things that we will expect our development officer to do is contact their peers to glean some benefit from their learnings. Mind you, different clubs do have different focus areas
We certainly do not have a candidate in mind and the experience of other clubs shows that it can take quite a while to find someone. Development Officers tend to have some, often quite a lot of, orienteering background with several being existing club members and others being students who are studying in the vicinity. One thing in common is that they need to be close enough to our area to be able to attend events and activities in person on a regular basis
If the project goes ahead, the aspiration is that we have some ready to start in the New Year but that is optimistic. The end of March ready for the Spring season is perhaps a little more realistic.
Please contact chair@octavian-droobers.org if you are interested or know someone that might be to find out a little more about the role.
