WEST MIDLANDS LEAGUE RESULTS
The 4th league event was held at Highgate Common, Swindon, near Stourbridge, and organised by Harlequins Orienteering Club and representing current league leaders Octavian Droobers Thomas Chapple M10 came 3rd orienteering round the Yellow 2.3km course finding 16 controls in 35 minutes. Club members took the first three places on several courses including the Orange 2.9km course: Florence Lunn W12 1st in 33.33mins, Rachel Alexander W55 2nd in 33.57mins and Philip Lunn M45 3rd in 37.27mins. On the Light Green 3.9km course Felix Lunn M14 was 1st in 36.05mins and Oliver Lunn M14 was 2nd in 43.41mins.
Tom Jeffries M45 was 1st on the longest course the Brown 10.3km, taking 75.29mins and Kin Kwan Kwok M20 was 3rd in 80 minutes. Peter Carey M70 came 2nd on the Short Green 3.9km course taking 37.38mins.
Oxford City Orienteering Race attracted a number of club members and runners were able to experienced high speed navigation through the University Park, streets and several College grounds. On the M21 Elite Sprint course Matthew Elkington was 3rd in 19 minutes. Iain Embrey M21 was also placed 3rd on the Men’s Open event taking 42.06mins and Nathan Lawson was 5th in 44.10mins. Christ McCartney was 4th in the Men’s Vet (M40+) course in 41.23minutes. Freddie Walker won the men’s mini M12 and under race taking 36.55mins and Sheila Carey came 2nd in the Women’s Ultravet class (W65+) taking 35.06mins.

BRITISH NIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
The annual British Night Championships were held this year at Middleton Park, Leeds and runners using head torches navigated through heavily pitted areas in the woods and across grassy parkland. Several Octavian Droobers competed and top performances were achieved by Harrison McCartney who won the M18 class taking 55.46mins on the 8.81km course with 235metres of climb and fellow club member Nathan Lawson who came 2nd in 1.00.21mins. Mateusz Podsiadly was 5th placed M20 taking 1.17.10mins on the 10.82km course with 250 metres of climb. Peter Carey was 3rd M70 in 1.05.12mins on the 4.98km course and David Lawson 4th on the M50 8.81km course taking 77.43mins.
Anne Straube won the W40 7.06k course in 75.37mins, Liz Phillips 2nd W50 in 58.53mins on the 5.58km course as was Sheila Carey on the W65 4.33km course taking 59.20mins. South Yorkshire Orienteers staged an event at Cawthorne Woods on Sunday following the night championships and Harrison McCartney was to M18 on the Black course taking 86.13mins. Anne Straube was top W40 on the Blue course taking 65.07mins, Bruce Bryant M55 won the Green course in 52.07mins and Sheila Carey was top W65 on the same course taking 68.26mins.
Further away several Droobers spent Saturday on an organised club training session on the Gower peninsular amongst the sand dunes followed by an event nearby at Pembrey Forest on Sunday. Pippa Smart was 2nd and top W12 girl on the Orange 3.1km course, Oliver Lunn M14 came 2nd on the Light Green 3.9km course taking 36.15mins and Felix Lunn was 4th in 39.13mins. Sam Leadley was 2nd M16 on the Green 4.3km course taking 45.16mins. On the Blue 6.1km course Bob Brandon was 2nd M65 in 54.56mins and Jo Congo 2nd W40 in 68.09mins. Top female runner was Kirsten Strain on the Long Brown 8.6km course in 74.47mins.
Nearer home the Ratby event in Leicestershire saw Nathan Lawson M18 come 2nd on the Brown 9.1km course in 1.00.01mins and Tony Feltbower M60 8th in 1.16.12mins. On the Blue 6.8km course David Lawson M50 was 4th in 54.44mins just seconds ahead of daughter Harriet Lawson W20 54.57mins. Jane Feltbower W60 was 2nd on the Light Green 3.3km course in 41.14mins and Sian Gardner W55 6th in 47.25mins. Peter Markham M12 was 5th on the 3km course taking 48.18mins.
