I finally dropped my reputation of putting on events in torrential rain, only to be replaced by heavy mist on top of the hills. Some did not think this was a blessing when they found I had planned something different for the green course.
To encourage accurate navigation, green course competitors were given control descriptions but on this occasion without code numbers. Punching the control at the correct feature was the key, made all the more difficult by the mist, by controls of other courses nearby and the extra 8 dummy controls I placed on different features within the circle. Much discussion was heard at the finish. I didn't get lynched, so hopefully everyone enjoyed the different approach.
However I think I was generous only penalising a mispunch by one minute – in retrospect, it should have been 3 mins.
Thanks to Karin, John and Kath for taking pressure off the organiser by providing a focus for help for newcomers. Also my thanks go to John for his help on registration and to John, Jules, Clive, David, Roman and Daniel for helping to collect in controls.
