Thank you to everyone
who helped on the day to make this event the success it was. I received a number
of very favourable comments saying how well everything had run, and I think this
is testament to the Droober “machine”!
I would like to thank
especially John Boden for his challenging course and for the fact that he (and
his family) rolled and sealed over 300 maps for distribution at the start.
Thanks should also go to Lester Hartman who conscientiously controlled the event
with is usual skill and enthusiasm. In addition I’d like to thank Elizabeth
and Paul Furness for looking after the registration and scoring processes, and
without whom you would have had one extremely frazzled organiser.
I’m sorry for the
delay to the results but this was largely caused by the power cut that meant we
had to start the scoring outside with very cold fingers.
I have one apology to
make; I announced at the event that the Junior trophy had been awarded to Adam
Bushnell, an M20. I subsequently found that the Laurie Bradley rules state that
a junior in this event is M/W18-, and the trophy should have been awarded to
Matthew Elkington (M14 OD). My sincere apologies to Adam for this mistake and
congratulations to Matthew for a fine win.
Finally thank to
everyone who came on the day. We had around 230 entries and I shall long
remember the sight of them all disappearing into every part of a frozen Sutton
Park from the start; a colourful and stimulating spectacle.
Thank you all once again and a happy and peaceful 2009.
