Planner’s comments
Living only 15 minutes away from the area helped considerably as several visits were necessary to achieve the courses. As with the other Warwickshire Country Parks, Pooley Fields is actively managed and some significant changes (the new gravel pathways for example) made it easier to plan the White and Yellow but needed Mike Hampton to come and update the map so thanks to him for a swift response to my call.
I think I found a few new control sites to keep the ‘grown-ups’ busy on the Green and Blue and there were several favourable comments – mainly about not having to go up and down the hill. The spread of abilities on the junior courses meant that in order not to put off those relatively inexperienced juniors there were likely to be some fast winning times and so it proved. Still, Iain’s winning time on the YBT Green was impressive – and whilst not being ideal warm-up for the Junior European Champs later this week in Switzerland nevertheless showed why he has been selected. Good luck to him, Tess Hill and Jess Halliday – all ex-West Midlands Junior Squaddies representing GB.
Thanks to Peter for long distance controlling – we didn’t actually meet until the event but thanks to the wonders of OCAD and CONDES managed to do everything electronically with only one visit to the area by Peter.

Controller Comments
Many thanks to all the OD club members who came out
to help, in what for most of the day was very extreme weather conditions.
I must mention in particular Bob Brandon who led the
club team and was on site by 7.00am getting everything all set up on the
organisation side.
Thanks also to Elizabeth who planned first class
junior courses in a postage stamp sized area, ably assisted by Paul who kept the
electronic side ticking away and had results out by 5.00pm Sunday evening.
Thanks also to those who competed and in particular
all the youngsters who braved very difficult weather running conditions and kept
going to produce an exciting and close YBT finish. Keep going and stay with
orienteering, the future of our sport needs you all.
Finally best of luck in the Yvette Baker Finals. I will watch out for the results with interest.
Peter Leverington.
