Abbey Fields, Kenilworth - 19th July 2006

With the temperature in the mid 80s, and many Droobers already on holiday,

I was worried that the turnout would be very low. As those that had to queue at

the start will know this was not the case, with a large and international turnout that

included orienteers from Italy, Spain, New Zealand and Finland.

As this was one of the Sprint Series races I had decided to restrict the courses to just

Abbey Fields and not cross the road to the Castle. Expecting to have problems getting

enough distance in I simply planned one lap and two lap courses and sent them off for

printing. Only when producing the control descriptions did I get round to measuring the

course lengths, which turned out to be a bit longer than intended. Fortunately Abbey Fields

is very fast so hopefully nobody found this too much of a problem.

My thanks to Andy Emmerson for retrieving two controls that had been

thrown into the undergrowth before the event had even started; to Melanie

for running the registration during the initial rush; and to Peter and

Judith Guillaume for managing the finish and download. With the numbers

now taking part, organising a Wednesday evening event is no longer a one-man job.
