ORIENTEERING OUT AND ABOUT

Events in London and Suffolk attracted Octavian Droobers club members competing in a variety of different orienteering races. On Saturday the annual London City Race which is normally part of the Euro City race was replaced this year, due to Covid, with an Urban race around a residential area in Ham, near Richmond Park. Mike Hampton M75 came 2nd in the Mens Hyper Vets class taking 31.45mins on the 3.9km course, Karin Kirk W70 was 1st in her age class taking 37.22mins on the same course.

On Sunday London Orienteering Klub (LOK) staged their 50th anniversary event with several courses around Hampstead Heath. Mike Hampton, an original member of LOK, was pleased to again achieve a 2nd place this time on the Short Green 3.5km course taking 41.15mins. Karin Kirk was 1st W70 on the same course. Junior Adam Landels M12 was 1st  on the Orange 2.9km course in 40.37mins, Alistair Landels M50 was 5th on the long Brown 9km course with 225 metres of climb in 54.55mins and Juliette Soulard W50 was 2nd woman on the Blue 6.6km course in 61.06mins.

Near Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk, Bruce Bryant was 2nd in 48.28mins and Liz Phillips 4th in 56.11mins on the Green 5.4km course around Nowton and Hardwick

The resumption of the local Autumn events starts on Saturday 25th September with several orienteering races around Cracks Hill, between Crick and Yelvertoft.
