DOUBLE WIN FOR PHILIP VOKES

 

A large group of Octavian Droobers Orienteering Club members competed this weekend at both the local event at Rough Close Scout Camp, Tile Hill, Coventry and in the regional event at Shoal Hill, Cannock Chase, organised by Walton Chasers.  Philip Vokes M21 was the fastest runner on both long courses at these two events.

 

At Shoal Hill, Philip Vokes achieved the winning time of 48.06mins on the Brown 8.5km course, Chris McCartney M50 was 10th in 58.12mins, David Leadley M55 11th in 63.02mins and Barry Elkington M65 15th in 68.54mins and all were awarded Brown Standard status. Anne Straube W45 was the leading lady on the same course taking 77.03mins. On the Blue 6.9km course Kirsten Strain W35 was the top club member taking 59.48mins, 2nd lady and 8th position overall.

Bruce Bryant M55 was 3rd in 40.44mins and Liz Phillips W55 4th on the Green 4.6km course. On the Short Green 3.9km course Peter Carey was 1st M75 in 49.02mins, Joanne Leigh W50 10th in 52.28mins, Sheila Carey top W75 and overall 11th in 54.55mins, Karin Kirk W70 17th in 57.43mins, Chris Dwyer M70 20th in 60.13mins and Trevor Simpson M80 22nd in 63.41mins all achieving Short Green Standard status. Junior Max Straube-Roth M12 was 3rd on the Orange 2.8km course in 48.23mins.

 

The club welcomed over 70 members to Rough Close and on the Short course Rupert Powell M14 was the winner taking 30.05mins, Hilary Simpson W80 was 2nd in 38.37mins and Rory Sarkies M14 was 3rd in 41.04mins.  Bruce Bryant M60 won the Medium course in 33.09mins, Richard Gardner M65 was 2nd in 35.10mins and Liz Phillips W55 3rd in 42.08mins. Philip Vokes’ winning time on the longest course was 32.37mins, Duncan Birtwistle M21 was 2nd in 34.20mins and Alistair Landels M50 3rd in 34.31mins.

 

At Bagworth Heath and Woods Leicestershire Orienteering Club event, Keith Willdig was 1st in 36.53mins on the 3.1km Short Green Course and Margaret Willdig W65 was 12th in 51.14mins. Mike Hampton took 35 minutes to complete the 3.5km course at the Huntingdon Urban event and was 2nd placed in the Mens Hyper Vet class.
