Midland Championships and Springtime in Shropshire Results

 

This weekend many club members made the biannual pilgrimage to Shropshire to compete in the 3 day SINS (Springtime in Shropshire) Orienteering events.  The weekend started with an Urban Race around Shrewsbury followed by two challenging races, one on Brown Clee and the other at The Wrekin.

 

The Brown Clee event was designated the Midland Championships and 13 club members became champions. The youngest champion was Max Straube-Roth who was the fastest M10. Sam Leadley M20, Duncan Birtwistle M21, Alistair Landels M50, David Lawson M55, Peter Carey M75, Trevor Simpson M80, Nadine Wright W21, Anne Straube W40, Juliette Soulard W45, Lesley Ross W50, Jill Emmerson W55 and Hilary Simpson W80 were all crowned midland champions in their respective age classes.

At Shrewsbury there were some fine runs Peter Carey was especially pleased with top place in the Mens Hyper Vet M75 + category. Other good runs were achieved by:  Chris McCartney 5th in the Mens Veteran race, Nadine Wright 7th in Womens Open, 4th Sheila Carey and 8th Margaret Willdig in the Womens Ultra Veteran class.

 

The Wrekin was as usual extremely challenging, the steep slippery slopes saw several mis punches and retirements. Those that triumphed were Anne Straube who won the W40 age class and Sheila Carey 1st on the W70 course. Top ten places were earned by: Trevor Simpson 2nd on the M80 age class, Hilary Simpson 2nd W80, Margaret Willdig 3rd W65, Stan Alexander 9th M65, Roman Kotecky 6th M70, Liz Phillips 7th W55, Peter Carey 7th M75  and Thelma Spalton 10th W70.
