DOUBLE FOR RIINA

At the Dales Town and Country Weekend Riina Kuuselo W21 came first on both her courses. On Saturday the Urban race around the towns of Settle and Giggleswick in North Yorkshire saw Riina’s winning time of 43.41mins hard to beat on the 6.3k course. Sheila Carey W65 was also placed first on her 4.1k course in 45.43mins and our other first runner home was Mike Hampton M65 on the 5.3k course.

Riina’s time of 1.00.45mins on the Short Brown 9k course with 310 metres of climb at North Kilnsey was best on the day. Mike Hampton was 6th in 54.02mins on the 6.4k Short Blue course as was Sheila Carey on the Green 4.7k course in 49.47mins.

Graham Urquhart organised three good courses around the popular and technical Bentley Woods event near Atherstone. Despite the consistent rain pouring down many juniors enjoyed the short Yellow course. The three top places went to Olivia James W12 1st in 21.52mins, Asim Poptani M12 2nd 25.34mins and Visva Moorthy M12 3rd 25.51mins all pupils from King Henry VIII School, Coventry.

On the longer Orange course Aimee Morse W16 came 1st in 19.14mins, Robert Titterington M70 Leicester Orienteering was 2nd in 26.55 and James Dance M18 3rd in 29.28mins. Harrison McCartney M14 won the long Green course in 29.06mins; Richard Deardon M40 from Harlequins was 2nd in 31.10mins and Riina Kuuselo W21 3rd in 31.27mins.

An Introduction to Orienteering event was staged at Daventry Country Park as part of their Countryside Day. Phil Kirk planned and set out the course and Karin Kirk, Richard Gardner and Jill Emmerson helped newcomers try out the sport. Over 60 participants enjoyed the challenge and the top 5 finishers were: Aleksandrs Ivanovs 4.48mins, Sam Lockwood 5.01mins, George King 5.27mins, Neil, Rihanna and Ethan Varney 5.47mins and Andy and Astrid Bow 5.51mins.
