Organiser's Comments

It is always a pleasure to organise courses around Solihull. There is no threat of vandalism and there is always lots of local interest in what is going on. This was one of the events under threat due to lack of volunteers. However, thanks to Liz’s perseverance and dedication we managed to forge a good team of volunteers. Many thanks to Belinda and James Glover for running registration and download. Special thanks to Alistair Powell for the excellent courses. It is a marvel that you can squeeze a 5.9km course into an area that is less than a square kilometre!

Karen did a fantastic job, generating interesting and encouraging inquisitive park users to have a go. It is a fantastic idea to target specific areas over a concentrated period. Not sure that we have generated many new members, but we have certainly raised the profile of orienteering.

Planner's Comments

This was the first time I have planned an event and thanks to John Middler's tuition on Condes it was pretty straight forward although getting in a decent length green did take a few revisions and a fair bit of line cutting. Hopefully the loops didn't confuse too many people but that was half the intention and did seem to catch a few experienced orienteers out! Thanks to Bruce for suggesting and adding in the short green, all the helpers, control collectors and everyone else for turning up and making it another great Wednesday night event.
