Organiser's Comments

When no-one volunteered to organise Abbey Fields, it looked like there was risk of cancelling the event.  That seemed a shame to me, so I offered to do my bit.  Keith, Margaret, Jane and Kerstin all kindly let me know that they would love to assist.  But it only left me two weekends to organise.  I was travelling for both of them, which didn't leave much time planning.  So I threw together three courses in no time.  Bruce kindly offered some suggestions, which would have improved the courses, but I'd sent off to the printers and didn't have time to think about change.

I was busy with work this week, so when I collected the equipment I chucked it the back of the car and forgot about it.  I nearly forgot to collect the maps, then didn't print off an All Controls map when I had access to a colour printer.  But I did remember to charge the battery the night before.

On the day, Keith & Kirsten were great putting the controls out, while Margret, Jane, Josie, & I set up everything. The forecast wasn't great, so we put the tent up, only to find that there were no pegs.  Kerstin offered the use of hers from a new tent that was in the back of her car.  We ended up pegging the tent down with spare controls, it looked quite fitting.

I then realised that there was no spare printer paper, then Karin turned up with a roll.  I was impressed with how prepared the ladies of Warwickshire were.

Jane and Margaret did a great job on registration, with Karin ably assisting everyone new to orienteering.  Thanks to Chris, David, Keith, Kerstin, Josie collecting controls while Karin, John Middler, Margaret and Jane packed all the equipment away.  Thanks for the offers of help that weren't required.

So it was a great team effort from a great team.  It was lovely to see so many turn up to run, when the forecast looked quite grim. There was some rain towards the end, but the weather wasn't as bad as I'd feared.

I hope all that everyone enjoyed their run, next time I'll spend more time on course planning. I think that the park would be great for a Sprint type event.

I was impressed by the Leadley Double-Full House. (using parkrun as a warm-up)

I enjoyed organising the event, much better than being cancelled! I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Rob
