BURTON DASSETT ATTRACTS LARGE FIELD
Over 120 entrants enjoyed the beautiful weather running round the Country Park at Burton Dassett Hills. Organisers junior Aimee Morse and her family were kept very busy as was junior Harrison McCartney putting out the controls and collecting them in at the finish with extra help from Sue Bicknell. A large number of young juniors and beginners tackled the short Yellow 1.3k course with 60 metres of climb and club junior Pippa Smart W10 came in first in 12.53mins just ahead of fellow junior Felix Lunn M12 in 12.57mins. Newcomer Nicholas Connolly was 3rd in 15.46mins. The club also welcomed 10 Duke of Edinburgh participants with their helpers from Harbury.
On the Orange 2.4k course with 80 metres of climb Rob Smart M45 won easily taking 19.52mins, Andrew Buckley M45 was 2nd in 29.47mins and keen Felix Lunn M12 did a second run and took 30.33mins to finish in 3rd place. The more technical Green 3.1k course with 140 metres of climb was won by visitor Charles Nelson M60 from Harlequins in 37.48mins only just beating club juniors Alfie Bullus M14 who took 37.48mins and Heather Rogers W16 38.29mins.
The most popular, with 42 competitors, and the longest course was the Blue 4.8k course with 200 metres of climb. Visitor Ben Windsor M21 from Leicester Orienteering Club raced around winning in a great time of 28.33mins. Hamish Rogers M18 had a good run and came in 2nd in 32.22mins and Chris McCartney M40 was 3rd in 34.38mins.
GB ELITE AND TALENT DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Congratulations to Octavian Droobers juniors who have been selected to become members of the GB Squads for 2013 ā€“ 2014. William Gardner M20 joins the 22 athletes in the Elite Development Squad. In the Talent Development Squad of 33 athletes will be four club juniors: Matthew Elkington M18, Harrison McCartney M16, Julie Emmerson M18 and Harriet Lawson M18. We wish them well with their training and look forward to seeing some great performances in the future.
RESULTS ROUND UP
At Sheringham in the Norfolk Dumpling event Sheila Carey W65 came 1st on the Green 4.08k course in 55.12mins and Pete Carey M65 was 4th on the Short Blue 4.69k course in 74.16mins. The Stamford Town Urban Mens Open 7.3k race was won by Robert Gardner M21 in 41.43mins; brother Alistair M18 was 9th in 45.46mins. Mike Hampton won the M65 3.9k race in 27.59mins and Bruce Bryant M55 was 2nd in 30.10mins. Richard Gardner M55 was 2nd on the M55 4.6k course in 36.28mins, Keith Willdig M60 7th 42.48mins and John Middler M60 8th in 43.25mins. Liz Phillips W45 was 4th on the W40 4.6k course taking 41.25mins and Margaret Willdig W60 was 3rd on the W55 3.9k course taking 40.56mins.

WILL GARDNER HELPS ENGLAND TO VICTORY
The England Orienteering team travelled to Republic of Ireland to compete in the annual Senior Home International against Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The event over two days included an individual race and a relay staged on extremely misty challenging rocky hillsides. Will Gardner making his debut in the senior squad came in first in the relay with fellow England team members Duncan Archer and Dave Schorah. They finished in 133.38mins ahead of Scotlandā€™s 134.32mins. He was placed 4th in the M20 individual race and OD member Toni Oā€™Donovan, competing for Ireland, came first in the individual W21 race and ex Droober Jessica Tullie, competing for Scotland came second.
The two day junior inter regional weekend took place also this weekend, with the individual championships in Wareham Forest and the Relay at Godshill, New Forest. Representing West Midlands Julie Emmerson came first in 64.11mins on the 7.25k course well ahead of Katie Wright from the North West in the individual W18 event, Nathan Lawson was placed 2nd taking 49.07mins and Harrison McCartney 3rd in M16 event. Nine other OD junior members were selected to represent the West Midlands: Harriet Lawson W18 who came 4th, Aimee Morse W16 7th, Stephen Elkington M16 11th, Hamish Rogers M18 14th, Rachel Emmerson W18 14th, Heather Rogers W16 16th, Alfie Bullus M14 21st, Rachel Johnson W18 26th and Rhiannon Cope W16 30th. After some good runs in the relays the West Midlands were placed 5th overall with 333 points Scotland took this years championship title with a total of 501 points.
The regional event at Epping Forest organised by CHIG Orienteering club attracted several OD members with some very good results. Chris McCartney M40 came 3rd on the Brown 9.28k course with 240 metres of climb and 29 controls taking 1.20.27mins, Sophie Kirk was second placed W21 taking 1.13.21mins on the Short Brown 8.05k course with 220m of climb and 24 controls and Tony Feltblower was the top M55 on the same course taking 1.19.07mins. Third M60 man home was Robert Brandon on the Blue 6.22k course in 1.02.18mins. Bruce Bryant M55 was 2nd overall on the Short Blue 5.06k course taking 43.09mins, only one second behind Richard Freeman from Happy Herts Club, and Liz Phillips was top W45 on the same course in 51.01mins. Sue Hallett came 9th, top W65 on the Green 4.25k course taking 1.01.28mins.
