Organiser's comments:

What a great turnout and a great area! The weather obviously encouraged people from far and wide as we reached nearly 300 entries. Many thanks to those who donated their maps as we ran out on a few courses – if you did donate a map and want a PDF copy please e-mail me: powell_alistair@hotmail.com.

Firstly, many thanks to all at Merevale Hall for the use of their beautiful woods and for being so accommodating with access, routes to start/finish and parking.
Many thanks to everyone who helped put the event on, including David Lawson for some excellent and challenging courses (the Brown caught me out a few times!), Peter Hornsby for controlling and everyone else from OD who turned out in force, especially those who worked on various tasks all day. Frankly, you made my job pretty straight forward in the end, including a merry band staying on to collect controls and pack up.

Thanks to Compass Point for bringing the shop and keeping us fuelled with hot and cold drinks and snacks. And to Central Toilet Hire who delivered and collected on time and were really easy to deal with.

I hope everyone enjoyed the day. If you have any feedback, positive or negative, please get in touch as it will help us improve how we run events in the future. Although I have planned for numerous events in the past, this was my first as organiser for a regional – not sure which I prefer!
Many thanks for coming to the event and I’m sure I’ll see some of you this weekend at The British Championships.

Alistair Powell.

Controller's comments:

What a delight Bentley is at this time of year and it was a privilege to run around check the sites on a bright morning with just the wildlife for company.

The walk to the start through the bluebells gave competitors a taste of the delights to come on the courses. The planner, David, made full use of the runnable nature of the area with some competitors reporting that the only path running that they took was from the last control to the finish.

My thanks go to David for planning courses that were good from the outset and to Alistair and his team that made very light work of the event systems coping easily with the very good numbers that turned up.

Last word goes to a satisfied orienteer who, when I stated that I thought that Bentley is probably the best area in the Midlands, retorted that it is the best in Britain. It is certainly hard to beat on a sunny May morning.

Peter
