CLUB JUNIORS SELECTED FOR BRITISH SUMMER TRAINING CAMPS

Congratulations to Matt Halliday M20 who has been selected by British Orienteering to travel to the Talent Fulfilment Coaching Camp in Slovenia. Also in July Sophie Kirk W20, Matt Elkington M16, Julie and Rachel Emmerson W16 will receive coaching at the Talent Development Camp in the Cairngorms, Scotland.  

Club juniors have also been selected to represent West Midlands at the Junior Inter Regional Championships. Elizabeth Furness, West Midlands Squad Manager, will be taking Stephen Elkington M14, Harrison McCartney M14, Matt Elkington M16, Hamish Rogers M16, Guy Ross M16, Will Gardner M18, Calum Barnetson M18, Patrick Roddy M18, Aimee Morse W14, Heather Rogers, W14, Zoe Nicolson W14, Rachel Emmerson W16, Julie Emmerson W16, Francesca Slade W16, Tamsin Alcock W16 and Emma Kettley W18 to the Lake District for the competition.

 On Wednesday over 100 participants took part in the event at Warwick University. Running around the streets and building provided an interesting challenge on courses well planned by Sue Hallett. The club welcomed many new orienteers including brownies, guides and school children. On the short 2.1k course Jeremy Knott M16 was 1st, Ros James W50 from South Mids O Club 2nd and Nirmal Mistry from King Henry VIII School Coventry 3rd. Riina Kuuselo W21 easily won the 4.1k medium course in 25.17 ahead of Julie Emmerson W16 28.11 and Pete Carey M65 31.14mins. The long 5.6k course was won by Thomas Honniball M21 in 35.46mins, Chris McCartney M40 2nd in 37.40mins and Richard Simkiss M21 3rd in 38.34mins.  

At Elmdon Park, the Colour Coded and West Midlands League event was ably organised by Thelma Spalton on Sunday attracting a good entry from all over the West Midlands. Winner of the White 1.3k beginner’s course was Sian Edwards W10 LEI in 15.10mins and Alfie Bullus M12 OD won the Yellow 1.9k in 21.58mins. Benjamin Scott M14 Harlequins was 1st on the 2.9k course in 33.01mins. On the Light Green 3.3k Lewis Wright M50 won in 39.20mins, Zoe Nicolson W14 OD 2nd 44.32mins and Martin Toms M50 3rd in 55.07mins.  

Sheila Carey W65 OD won the Short Green 3.9k in 40.35mins ahead of Hazel Waters W60 Walton Chasers 45.37mis and Hilary Simpson W70 OD 57.55mins. On the Green 4.8k course Robert Brandon M60 OD went round in 39.49mins beating Anne Straube W35 40.34mins and Peter Carey M65 OD 46.31mins. On the long Blue 7.7k course Romualdas Stupelis M21 Harlequins was 1st in 44.18mins ahead of fellow Harlequin Jonathan Rhys M21 48.17mins and Simon Reeve M35 FERMO 50.35mins.
